DARiV's Concrete polishing Strategy
Concrete polishing is the science and art of processing a cast-in-place concrete slab or concrete topping to achieve the gloss or reflective degree of finish you desire. Driven by our values, our strategy for every concrete polishing project is customized to meet the outcomes you need for your floor. Now, a polished concrete project can take weeks and months to complete, depending on the project’s size, difficulty, and desired finish. These factors also affect the costs of a polished concrete project. But if you are after long-term convenience and cost-effectiveness, give polished concrete a
How can concrete polishing elevate your floor?
Typically, your concrete is dusty and dull. It could have residue from previous coatings or flooring material. In case the existing concrete was placed haphazardly, your flooring is uneven and not level.
- Preparing – We prepare the concrete floor by testing its density and strength, and removing surface dust.
- Grinding – We use coarse grits to prepare the concrete surface. The aim is to remove unnecessary dust and materials, and ensure a flat, even, and level surface.
- Patching – We ready the concrete for the next stages by sealing cracks and filling holes.
- Application of Densifier – We apply densifier to harden the concrete surface. This makes the concrete stronger, long-lasting, and protected from rust, mold and mildew, and rebar expansion. If needed, we also apply stains to achieve the color or design you prefer.
- Honing – We grind the concrete surface again until it achieves a more even and smoother finish.
- Polishing – We grind the surface again with a finer grit until your desired gloss is achieved.
Here’s an example of what concrete polishing can do to your floor. After intense hours of grinding and polishing, a concrete floor becomes glossy. This turns concrete into a light reflector, making indoors brighter and less dependent on artificial light. Here’s a short video clip of a warehouse flooring we completed using 800grit and stain resistant guard.

Is concrete polishing suitable for all concrete surfaces?
It is possible to polish all kinds of concrete floorings and horizontal surfaces except for certain floor conditions.
Newly finished concrete floors
Grinding and polishing concrete only works on floors that at least 28 days old. This is the period of time needed for concrete to cure and harden. You can opt to polish your concrete floor as early as the 29th day after placement in order to reduce the process needed for polishing.
Uneven, damaged, or extremely porous concrete floors
The heavy equipment used for polishing concrete works best on even surfaces. Moreover, surfaces that have lots of cracks may require patching before the polishing process begins. In case, the floor is extremely porous, the grinding process may damage the concrete.
It is crucial to choose contractors with extensive experience with handling concrete. At DARIV, we have seasoned engineers and contractors who can determine if a floor is suitable for polishing, and can offer options for your concrete floor such as hardening treatment or resurfacing.
Polished concrete stands out among flooring materials used in the Philippines in terms of overall cost-efficiency, versatility, durability, and class. This is not surprising since concrete floorings are relatively cheaper and easier to lay. But polishing concrete with the right tools gives it the sheen and durability you would want in your flooring.
